Leonard Cohen fue uno de los más grandes compositores que nos dió el siglo pasado.

Es un poema basado en historias bíblicas, relatos antiguos, creencias, la fe, las inseguridades e inquietudes existenciales.

Cohen utiliza la simbología judía para expresar la gloria y la pena de amar.

La canción ha sido versionada por numerosos artistas, más de 200 versiones hasta la fecha a través de conciertos y grabaciones, entre ellos la versión de Il Divo, Bob Dylan, Enrique Morente y Lagartija Nick.

En cuanto al significado de la canción, el autor declaró:

“Este mundo está lleno de conflictos y lleno de cosas que no se pueden unir, pero hay momentos en los que podemos trascender el sistema dualista y unirnos y abrazar todo el desorden, a eso me refiero con Aleluya. La canción explica que los diferentes tipos de aleluyas y todos los aleluyas perfectos y rotos tienen el mismo valor. Es un deseo de afirmar la vida no en un significado religioso formal, sino con entusiasmo, con emoción. Sé que hay un ojo que nos está mirando a todos, hay un juicio que evalúa todo lo que hacemos”.
